Once upon a time, in a far away land called California, there was a little girl named Rachel. (Hey, that’s me!!) Well, I’m not really little any more. I’m actually all grown up now…at least MOST DAYS! I’m pushing 40, a mother of 3, a chemical engineer by trade (with absolutely NO FORMAL EDUCATION other than grunt work and interning under some of the best in the business), a home Bible study leader, and an ex-teacher. I guess that pretty much sums me up…except for the biggest things of all–I’M A LOVER OF GOD, flowers, and humans!
I’ve been through a lot in my 39 short years…sometimes it feels like more bad than good. But…my God has always been faithful, and the biggest blessing of my life has been walking hand in hand with Him each and every day.
My biggest challenge in life has been GROWING. But I still try to do it every day…like Jesus grew…in wisdom…in stature…and in favor with God and man. (Luke 2:52)
It’s funny how sometimes, even though my two oldest are in high school now and soon will be venturing out into the world on their own…I still feel like I’m growing up WITH THEM. A baby raising babies…I guess that’s me. Just barely keeping up. Just barely staying ahead. Just barely even standing sometimes.
Even though I am far from perfect, there’s just one thing I always do…LOVE!! I always LOVE THEM…and I always LOVE GOD!! I try to live by my life motto: “God is good all the time, and all the time God is good.” Or more appropriately for me…”LIFE SUCKS–but God is good!”
Here’s the verse that inspired my blog, my new life verse:
“Just as a nursing mother cares for her children, so we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.” 1 Thessalonians 2:7b-8 (NIV)
I love you all! Now go SPARKLE FOR HIM!!

Long time supporter, and thought I’d drop a comment.
Your wordpress site is very sleek – hope you don’t
mind me asking what theme you’re using? (and don’t mind if
I steal it? :P)
I just launched my site –also built in wordpress like yours– but
the theme slows (!) the site down quite a bit.
In case you have a minute, you can find it by searching for “royal cbd” on Google (would appreciate any feedback) – it’s still in the works.
Keep up the good work– and hope you all take care of
yourself during the coronavirus scare!

Hi Justin! Thanks for the encouraging words! I’m using Baskerville 2 now. I’ve tried about 5 themes total in the past couple weeks, and this one seems to be my favorite! There were lots of options I found easy to customize in Baskerville 2, which really let me play with the look. I struggled a bit figuring out how to change the color of the “tag line” in the header, and I finally emailed in for support on that. It makes it hard to read only in gray…and really limits my options of header photos. There were a couple different templates you could choose from for the “about me” page and others which I really liked playing with. The clincher for me on Baskerville was the template for the homepage. I just liked how it lined all the blog posts up with thumbnails and individual boxes. An option in the theme I didn’t notice right away was the “color scheme” option. It changes the color of the main headings and background all at the same time. I really think that “color scheme” option is an easy way to help your site look different than everyone else’s…as well as picking your own font. I’m still tweaking…I’m brand new to this…but it’s kind of fun playing with the designs. Good luck! (Oh…and check the resolution of your images…I had that problem before where my higher res images were slowing down the page loading. A lot of times it’s just the media attached to it.) I haven’t re-formatted my high res images down smaller yet, which is probably why they are so huge in the individual blog posts. It might be something I go back and play with later when I’m ready to perfect that part.
